Kotelnik convinced of Khan victory

Eurosport - Thu, 02 Jul 11:13:00 2009

Andreas Kotelnik is in no doubt at all that there will only be one winner when he defends his WBA junior-welterweight crown against Amir Khan on July 18 at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Andreas Kotelnik, BOXING - 0

The 31-year-old Ukrainian, who is currently based in Germany preparing for the bout, said: "I am the world champion, this is my job, I have been doing it for 24 years and I have no doubt I will win."

"I don"t want to say too much, I just want to say, "Hey, I"ll see you in the ring.

"I won my title in Cardiff against Gavin Rees - that was my target and now I have to defend my title over there".

  1. Boxing is a brutalgame inside the ring but outside Boxers are lot smarter and shrewd businessmen these days. Hand picking fights has nothing to do with been a boxing inferior fighters its all about raising your profile, creating interest, maintaining a unbeaten record and to make more money in the long term. Of course once you reach a certain level you need to raise the bar and fight at a higher level for glory and money. Khans team is doing just that. They are building him him slowly to test his limits and capabilites as a fighter and see how far he can reach. Every fighter has his limitations so why try to reach the moon when you can conquer whats near you??? I am confident Khan will beat this Kotelink guy either by points or a late stoppage. However, it wont be a easy night. This is unlike any other fight, this is for a world title fight and both will comeprepared and will have loads of nerves to conquer. If Khan can box smartashe did in Barrera fight he will be victorious and be the next British World Champion at light Welterweight at the age of 22!! Go Khan, do the business

  2. khan has been blown up in the press ,he is a good domestic boxer who needs hand picked opponents who are past there best or non punchers. To many titles ,to much hype, not much tallent.

  3. Haye is a better fighter than tyson fury all we know about Fury is thats he's big and strong. He don't seem a very technical boxer everyone he has been up against has just backed off him

  6. exenteratiner. Good dream fights, id love to see witter vs murray, what a classic. Do you no whats happened with Kesslers promoters? I wasnt trying to say Murray was a bad fighter. But what gets me mad is Khan gets so much abuse, AND I MEAN REAL TOUGH ABUSE, for not fighting the best in the world after only 22 fights. Wheras Murray is still fighting lawton etc yet people dont say a word about it. People get jelous of khan and that leads to hatred.

MY dream fights:( sorry for copying you a bit xentertainer!)

  11. Murray may be into his 26th fight and not achieved a world title shot yet but that doesn't make him a bad fighter. Unproven maybe, but not a bad fighter. Besides, nothing says he still couldn't beat Prescott. And when and who is Prescott fighting next? Anyone know?

  12. I BELIEVE THAT KOTENIK WILL RETAIN HIS BELT AGAINST KHAN.
HOW CAN ALL THESE FOOLS SAY THAT KOTLELNIK IS AN EASY FIGHT .
THIS GUY HAS NEVER BEEN STOPPED AND HE HAS ALWAYS DONE ENOUGH TO RETAIN HIS TITLE .
YOU ONLY HAVE TO LOOK AT ALL OF HIS FIGHTS AND SEE THAT KOTELNIK IS NO MUG AND THAT HE GETS BETTER IN THE MIDDLE TO LATER ROUNDS.
I HOPE THAT KOTLINK WINS AS KHAN DOES NOT DESERVE HIS CHANCE AS HE HAS NOT GONE THROUGH A LEGITIMATE ROUTE TO FIGHT FOR A WORLD TITLE LIKE OTHER BOXERS HAVE HAD TO. WHAT MAKES KHAN ANY DIFFERENT ?

  13. murray wud never fight prescott. 26 fights n still fighting a british 7th ranked shi tty fighter. not good. take a leaf outof khans book mate.

  14. Prescott vs Murray is a good shout actually, I hadn't thought of that one. Hard 1 for me to call cos all I have seen of Prescott is 54 seconds of him smashing Khan about but judging by his record I imagine he would beat Murray by KO in the later middle rounds.

  18. Xentertainer, I agree with everything you have said there except for 1 thing! I also said Khan vs Murray wouild be good and Murray deserves it, I think that would be a grerat fight that Khan wins after 7 or 8 good rounds

From Luke W, on Mon 6 Jul 4:27PM
  19. Tyson Fury hasn't had a crediable fighter yet. He has not yet been put under pressure by a worthy challenger. He's got promise. There is no one apart from Hay who appears to be above average.

Khan could win his next contest if he boxes, keeps his defence tight and moves. Good luck to him whether or not he deserves a crack at the title.
