La Liga - Villa 'in touch with Barcelona'

Valencia striker David Villa, one of the stars of Spain's victorious Euro 2008 squad, has been in touch with Barcelona about a move to the European champions, according to reports in Spain.

"I only want to go to Barca," Villa told Barcelona's technical director Txiqui Begiristain at a secret meeting, the Catalan sports paper Mundo Deportivo said.

He said "that there are only two alternatives: to agree on his transfer to Barca or he is ready to see out his contract with Valencia," the daily Sport reported.

It said the 27-year-old has rejected interest from Chelsea and from Barca's arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona, which won a unique treble of league, Spanish cup and European Champions League trophies last season, is ready to offer Villa contract of four or five years, said Mundo Deportivo.

  2. Barca need an experienced central defender from EPL -­ definitely someone as Vidic, could be Lescott from­ Everton or Richards from Man City (even as swap deal if­ they take Eto'o). Probably Mascherano could be a­ good option as well, cos Toure will miss couple of­ games due to African Cup. If Eto'o stays - no need­ to spend big on Villa or whoever else. Come on - next­ treble is waiting for us. Forca­ Barca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. no need to buy defenders for barca as the other teams­ will be always defending against barca, they will be so­ busy conceding less goal when barca plays, so no worry,­ i think barca defenders are great, although valdis took­ zamora troupy but that was because of the defenders

  5. What a signing Villa would be, he is a prolific scorer­ in La Liga and would give Eto'o a reason to pull­ his finger out and fight for his place! Getting Villa­ would give us easily the strongest attack in the world,­ however I think we need to buy a few strong defenders,­ as that is Barca's true weakness!
