Allardyce hails Rovers "miracle"

Thu 02 Jul, 11:31 AM

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce believes it was "miraculous" what he and his squad achieved in escaping relegation last season.

The former Bolton and Newcastle boss was brought in to replace the sacked Paul Ince in mid-December with Rovers struggling next-bottom of the Premier League - five points from safety.

However, Allardyce turned things around and they finished the season 15th, seven points clear of the drop zone.

"I look back at what we achieved and it was pretty miraculous," said the Rovers boss. "What happened from December until the end of the season was a greater achievement than I originally thought.

"That's based on many things, like the fact that we spent less than anybody else. Tottenham threw another £40million at it, Stoke threw another £10million at it, and Hull threw six or seven million at it - while we just got Dioufy (El-Hadji Diouf) for a million and took Gael Givet on loan.

"That, when you reflect on it, shows you how big an achievement it was by everybody."

  2. Hahaha melvin, your comments are hilarious... oh the irony, Big Sam keeps little clubs like Blackburn and Bolton in the Prem - isn't that exactly what you needed???? I personally blame the newcastle fans. You wanted shearer, you got shearer and now your not even in the same league as Burnley! LOL. Another point, how are you a big club? Last top league win 1927! Haha. Last major trophy, FA Cup 1955. A big stadium filled with airheads who'll be watching Scunthorpe next season doesn't make you a big club son. Lap it up.

Lets all laugh at geordies, lets all laugh at geordies la la la la, la la la la.

  3. 1 MORE POINT. SHEARER. IF HE'S MORE OF A LEGEND AT blackburn, THAN HE IS AT NEWCASTLE, HOW COME YOU ALWAYS BOOED HIM WHEN HE TURNED UP AT YOUR STUPID LITTLE $HITTY GROUND? YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES

  4. Sam Allardice is a dodgy @#$% who does what he does best - keeping $hi tty little clubs like Bolton and Blackburn just above the bottom four. He recruited both Alan Snmith and Joey Barton. What tw @t.

  5. bloody hell jealous foriegners on the last page i read now we have jealous newcastle fans you were relagated the fans got rid of big sam big mistake
they all shouted keegan and then shearer who infact is more of a legend here at the legendary blackburn rovers (which is one of four teams to win the premiership)
than he was at newcastle what have they ever won? with form like last season you end up relagated fact we come from the dead and the newcastle fans put pressure on their team by shouting silly things about blackburn legend alan shearer!

  7. With regards to Freddy Shepherd. Some idiots are saying "better the devil you know." I'm not having it. The Toon are still trying to recover from the Shepherd era. Ashley was just part of the disease. The infestation began under Shepherd. Shepherd left this club, I hate to say it - but here goes, with a serious cancer. I said at the beggining of last season that NUFC may need to spend some time in the Championship to recover from the critically flawed miss management of Shepherd and Souness. And the transfer policy of Allardice. Barton and Smith etc
It might hurt, but the Championship is probably the place we need to be order to cut the rot out of the Toon and to re - invigorate ourselves. We'll be back. All we need is on owner with intellect and integrity. The club is big enough to generate the resources needed to get back into the top strata. You look at the BLACKBURN'S Wigan's, Hull's and Bolton's of this world. If they had our recent history to deal with, they'd be gone. People are interested because we represent good business. With the right strategy - the Toon represents a winner...

  9. Sam Allardyce has every right to praise himself and the blackburn players for their achievements last season. Blackburn lost the essential players of their team (Hughes, Bentley, Friedel and Roque to injury) so you cannot compare to the previous season. The team were not part of the 7 or 8 team "scramble" when he took over, they were 5 points adrift from safety with West Brom. And lastly, if you measure success only by winning the league and FA cup then 16 teams may as well not bother turning up next season. Frankly, you just sound like a bitter, resentful Newcastle fan.

Big Sam has brought the Pride back to Lancashire.

  10. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

There is something inevitably wrong when a person starts to praise himself,Big Sham fits the bill perfectly. The team were playing way under the previous seasons form, and needed to play better anyway. To try to make capital out of the mad scramble that took place between 7 or 8 teams last season is brass necked beyond belief.Only give yourself a pat on the back if you actually win the league or the F.A. Cup this season coming, thats if you are still there of course.
