John Barnes is refusing to look too far ahead as he plots Tranmere's assault on League One this season.

The former Liverpool and England winger was recently installed at Prenton Park after an ill-fated spell at Celtic a decade ago and a recent stint in charge of the Jamaica national side.

Barnes is refusing to set any goals ahead of the opening game of the campaign at Yeovil.

He said: "I am not looking to Christmas or where we are going to be in November.

"It is a fresh start for me and I'm just focused on the first game of the season."
