Brewers chasing Penn - Harriers

Thu 02 Jul, 03:08 PM

Midfielder Russell Penn could be about to sign for Football League newcomers Burton, according to his current club Kidderminster.

Harriers chairman Barry Norgrove has admitted he has been in talks with the Brewers but has told manager Paul Peschisolido he will have to start the bidding for the 23-year-old at £50,000.

"Burton have been in touch about Russell, to see whether we would be letting him go this summer," Norgrove told the Express and Star. "We don't want him to leave, so we told them no - unless a substantial bid was lodged.

"If money were to be offered of such a significant amount that it could safeguard the club's future, then we would have to look at that seriously in this economy.

"Such a figure would be a starting point of £50,000, going upwards from there, possibly even into six figures. At the end of the day, what is the point of letting Russell Penn leave for peanuts?"

Penn, who was the subject of bids from Peterborough and Walsall last summer is currently the Harriers' longest-serving player.
