Defensive pair should stay - Laws

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws is confident defensive duo Richard Wood and Tommy Spurr will soon sign their new contracts.

Owls skipper Wood, 23, who has been linked with several rival clubs and Spurr, 21, have a year still to run on their current deals and Laws refuses to pressure the Owls academy products into signing until they are happy to do so.

Laws told Press Association Sport: "We're still very confident both Richard and Tommy will sign their new contracts.

"We're not going to be forcing them to put pen to paper, but negotiations have kept moving along and we'll get there in the end.

"We want them both to sign, of course we do, but by the same token we don't want them to do something they're not happy with.

"Neither player wants to leave the club. There are just a few small details to sort out."

  2. No I agree Brian. There's no need to pressure them to sign. They'll both sign when they realise that no decent teams are interested in them. They'll be happy to stay at their mediocre little club fighting the relegation battle again.
