Halford could take chances with Wolves

Thu 02 Jul, 11:20 AM

Sunderland defender Greg Halford is poised to move to Barclays Premier League newcomers Wolves for around £2million.

The 24-year-old right-back is set to complete a switch to Molineux in the next 24 hours.

It will be Mick McCarthy's third capture of the week after striker Kevin Doyle (Reading) and midfielder Andrew Surman (Southampton).

And it will take the former Sunderland manager's summer spending in total to approximately £12million.

Halford spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and will provide competition for Kevin Foley, who was Wolves' player of the year last season.

Halford made the £3million move from Reading to Sunderland two years ago when the Wearsiders were managed by Roy Keane - but had restricted opportunities at the Stadium Of Light.

He had spells on loan at Charlton and then the Blades.

  3. Nice to see Bruce putting the rubbish out. As a player, Halford was woefully short of Prem standard. Just another of RK's bad buys - and there were rather a lot of them. Strange to say that, as Ipswich boss, he seems ready to buy them again! Some people never learn, apparently.

  7. Glad to see we're getting rid of the dead wood - a major failing of Keono's: spending the money avaialble on too many mediocre players instead of fewer better quality players. Let's hope Bruce goes for quality and not quantity.
