Hughton backs players to be ready

Thu, 02 Jul 15:29:57 2009

Caretaker Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is backing his players to ignore the chaos off the pitch as they prepare for the new campaign.

The bulk of the squad returned for pre-season training on Wednesday and were put through their paces by Hughton and Colin Calderwood.

He said: "The day went well and there was no difference, in many ways, to any other pre-season.

"There's a job to be done and the mood was good. I was pleased.

"Whatever the situation at this club or any other club, one thing that doesn't change is that the players quite look forward to the first day.

"They are professional enough not to let what's happening outside affect them."

It's true to say that the wealth this club produces,in any other club would and should produce results. There are not many clubs that have this huge support.Unfortunately, the men at the top are not particulary interested, except for profit and cutting corners.Hence my remark"why should you spend the cash when the fans are happy to turn up and accept the dross dished out"I mean why bother to put out red sauce and mustard for your hotdogs when you know that you will sell out anyway.I hope you will understand that philosophy.Ashley is hugely wealthy, its unfortunate that the fans turned on him.He may well have put NUFC back at the top, considering he was and is a fan proper.Yet another missed oppurtunity.

    [edit] Honours
For honours at reserve and academy level, see Newcastle United F.C. Reserves and Academy.
Newcastle United's honours include the following:[62]

    Honour Number Years
    League
    Football League First Division Champions 4 1904/05, 1906/07, 1908/09, 1926/27
    English Premier League Runners-up 2 1995/96, 1996/97
    Football League Second Division Champions 3 1964/65, 1983/84, 1992/93
    Football League Second Division Runners-up 2 1897/98, 1947/48
    Northern League Champions 3 1902/03, 1903/04, 1904/05
As you can see john. Our record in the premiership since 97 has been poor, with all the cash toon fans have ploughed into NUFC,yes, the fans cash,no results have been produced. My suggestion is that that cash has been wildly abused.

  4. Cameron, signing off with a final thought. From my end I wish I shared your optimism. But we have a t**t for an owner, a t**t for a Chief Executive, and a big t**t for a manager so my hopes are not high. Still, you know how that feels right?
Oops just seen you've got some Malaysians sniffing round. I hope for your sake it's not the Profitable Plots guys. I worked out there. They are crooks.

  6. Clough was actually a modest man, he never said he was the best manager around, he merely said he was in the top one, and who could argue with that.

  18. thanks for the reply im along time nufc supporter and have been for 30yrs and hate the macems with a passion but you have to face im right Newcastle were one of the greats hence the entertains they were famously know as they may not have won nowt for years but they deserve to be in the top flight third highest attendance and i can asure you that they will leave the rest behind in the championship this season. But the chuckle brothers Stan & Laural have destroyed a massive club

  19. comment 10, impact, do you think Amber may be a girl, forgive me Amber if I'm mistaken.
Anyway, you clearly think Sunderland have made the big time, you have said so often enough and gone to great lengths with the detail.
So, since the premiership began, our record shows that we finished runners up twice (not to mention a few top four finishes), made two FA cup Final appearances and spent more than half of our reign in Europe including Champions league and a semi final in the UEFA cup.
While we were signing players like Shearer, Ginola and Beardsley, Sunderland were splashing out on Nunez and Marcus Stewart.
Sunderland's record is two finishes at 7th and relegation battles for the other couple of seasons they visited.
They still haven't done anything better than that including the coming season though I'm sure you hope for some sort of success like 4th bottom.
