Caretaker Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is backing his players to ignore the chaos off the pitch as they prepare for the new campaign.
The bulk of the squad returned for pre-season training on Wednesday and were put through their paces by Hughton and Colin Calderwood.
He said: "The day went well and there was no difference, in many ways, to any other pre-season.
"There's a job to be done and the mood was good. I was pleased.
"Whatever the situation at this club or any other club, one thing that doesn't change is that the players quite look forward to the first day.
"They are professional enough not to let what's happening outside affect them."

Cameron,you still here?
Heyup Kevin,With the consent of the fans, the players take home their wages in wheelbarrows.
Jeff McKenna: Theme song to "when The Boat Comes In" a classic 1970's TV series about 1920's depression era Newcastle starring James Bolam (Terry in the Likely Lads). Not much different to modern day Newcastle really.
heyup Amber, you back on that track,"Where we belong",get real mate your premiership record shows you do not belong in it,you have struggled for years and never made the big time.Do us all a favour and play another tune, toon.
I hope not Cameron. I've got a pool going with 2 Boro fans and 2 Toon guys I work with. I am either going to make a bomb or have to leave town.
Jeff McKenna: Not a Brit or too young?

its as plain as the nose on your face Mike Ashley is out to distroy Newcastle United as one of the biggest clubs in euorpe, at no time did he intend to sell the club prior to us getting relegated know he cannot get out quickly enough as its job done Ncle are no longer a premier team, if hes as desprate to sell why does he not accept the first bid thats throwen at him or is it know plan B second string league second string team and the chuckle brothers takeing charge(houghton/Calderwood) get out and let Sir Al!!! take over and let some body who loves the toon get us back yo where we belong . One thing i will add it will be dark days in Ncle as long as Ashley rains R.I.P Ncle

A PXXXed off toon fan
Cameron, Chris has asked me to reply on his behalf. As you know Joey Barton has just turned up so Chris is occupied full time trying to stop him maiming one of his team-mates. However he has asked me to reassure you that, even though the owner is trying to get rid so there is no money, all of the players are leaving, you haven't signed anybody yet, and you don't have a manager, all of the players (well, those that are left and ignoring the psycho who it's best not to look at never mind speak to) are fully committed to the cause of drawing their salary each week, so everything will be fine.
Can i remind Hughton and Co that there was a job to be done at Villa Park!
This job (one solitary goal) was well within their grasp but this pathetic shower didn't care one iota - not even enough to register a single attempt at goal in the final 45 minutes of their Premier League lives!
Tell me Chris, what has happened in the intervening weeks to change their disrespectful, disdainful and apathetic attitude towards NUFC and its long-suffering, loyal fans?
