Southend have handed a trial to Estonia defender Andrei Stepanov.
The 30-year-old centre-half, who had a brief spell with Watford last season, has linked up with the Shrimpers for pre-season training.
"Andrei was recommended to us by an agent and we will be having a look at him in training," said manager Steve Tilson.
Tilson has been on the look-out for a centre-back since Peter Clarke decided to quit Roots Hall and join Huddersfield.
