Morecambe have handed one-year professional contracts to rookies Matty Poole and Ben Jackson after they impressed in the youth and reserve teams last season.

Lancaster-born Poole, 18, plays in midfield and while Jackson, who hails from Southport and is also 18, is a defender.

Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy said: "Both lads did well in the reserves last season and we will be looking to improve them as players again this year."
