Stricken Livingston call crisis meeting

Thu 02 Jul, 06:15 PM

Livingston chairman Angelo Massone has called an open meeting for this weekend in a desperate bid to save the ailing club.

The future of the Irn-Bru First Division outfit is in serious doubt, with administration looking increasingly likely.

West Lothian Council have launched legal action to recover rent arrears after club chiefs failed to meet the deadline to pay around £280,000 owed for the hire of their Almondvale Stadium.

Massone and prospective investor Neil Rankine have now appealed for fans to attend a meeting at the stadium at noon on Saturday.

A statement on the club`s website, www.livingstonfc.co.uk, read: "Let's all get together, in a democratic way, to discuss all the problems of the club, working together to find a solution that we can be proud of.

"Livingston Football Club is much, much more than a football stadium, more than a professional football team, more than loyal supporters, it's our club, our pride, our future, and it's our duty to protect when threatened.

"Like most football clubs, Livingston has not been immune to pressures.

"We have endured many attempts to close us down, sidestepped many tactics to sabotage our games, constant threats of administration.

"But, through our passion, unity and pride we have taken these challenges head on and battled on with sheer determination and commitment to survive.

"This is the greatest opportunity for all to unite, stand our ground and show our support and love for Livingston Football Club. Please join us on Saturday and save our club."
