John Thompson has been named as Notts County's permanent captain for the forthcoming season.

The Irishman skippered Ian McParland's side at the latter end of the recent campaign after taking over the armband from Mike Edwards.

"John Thompson will be my captain next season," McParland told his club's official website. "That has been decided and John will be wearing the armband.

"He did a great job for me during the back end of the recent campaign and he has a very important role to play."

Elsewhere, Magpies winger Myles Weston has completed his move to Brentford.
