Southampton boss Mark Wotte has not given up hope of keeping goalkeeper Kelvin Davis at St Mary's.

Davis, 32, is now out of contract and with the future of the club still up in air and takeover talks ongoing no-one can be offered a new deal.

The former Sunderland and Ipswich keeper has had a medical at West Ham, but Wotte claims he could still stay with the south-coast club if a takeover is successfully completed within the next few days.

"I asked Kelvin about his situation and he has almost signed for West Ham," Wotte told the Southern Daily Echo.

"I hope the takeover will be done before Kelvin joins West Ham."
