Button and Hamilton excited about Silverstone

Eurosport - Fri, 02 Jul 12:14:00 2010

McLaren’s Formula One championship chasers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button spoke of their excitement ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The British duo, who are doing friendly battle at the top of the drivers’ standings, came second and third respectively at the Canadian GP last weekend and are looking for a one-two in their home event on July 11.

"Racing in front of your home crowd is one of the biggest buzzes for any racing driver," reigning drivers’ champion Button said. "And racing at Silverstone is always an exceptional experience - the crowds are huge throughout the weekend, everybody absolutely knows their stuff, and the motivation and support you get is like nowhere else on earth. I love it.

"The British Grand Prix is a bit of a festival of motorsport - there’s a great atmosphere there, a party vibe, and you meet people who’ve supported you throughout your career, which is always very rewarding."

Hamilton agreed, adding "our whole team is really hungry for success.

"After spending most of 2009 out of the hunt, I can tell that everybody is really fired up, particularly for this weekend, where we’ll be performing in front of a home crowd, and all our friends and families.

"It would be amazing to score another great result at our home race."

One thing both drivers are unsure about, however, is the new track.

"Of course, the big unknown for this year is the new track configuration," Button added.

"On paper, it looks to have kept most of the classic corners, which is important. We’ve lost Bridge, but we’ve still got Copse, Becketts and Stowe, which is great.

"There’s no substitute for actually driving it though, and a new circuit is always great fun to try out and get to grips with, so I can’t wait for Friday morning."

Hamilton agreed, although he feels the new layout suits him.

"We haven’t raced on this Silverstone configuration before - I’ve looked at the track map, and I’ve seen some onboard footage, and I like what I’ve seen.

"It still looks fast and sweeping - even the new corners look medium- to high-speed, which is what you want around here."

  8. Guys ,you really have some issues that need professional help. Just face facts, Mclaren have been the whiping boys of the FIA for years while whiter than white ferrari go away with murder. Even Renault when found with mclaren data just got a slap on the wrist after mclarens $100 mill fine, now tell me that was fair?????? Now its mclaren that are seemingly getting away with murder (there were loads at the last race, remember the 5 sec penalties, not just mclaren), certain individuals are spitting their dummies out, well tough. there is only one driver who is actually racing out their and now the FIA actually realise this. Shame that all 24 driver are not like him, no one would be griping about the lack of overtaking then. Most others, typically massa and alonso (sorry if it looks like i'm having a go at ferrari but I didnt pick their drivers), think that they just have to turn up and that is enough. Kimi was the same, only worse, he was downright lazy as well. That is schuis problem, he was at ferrari for too long, and again, just thinks he has to turn up. Now hes in a dog of a car , hes lost, at least Nico tries, and it shows, 75 points to 34 says it all. So those who keep going on, 'well hes got a s*** car, he would win if he was in a mclaren' WHAT ABSOLUTE B*O*L*L*O*C*K*S ,he cant even beat his team mate in an equal car. What makes you think he could beat Lewis or even Botton in a mclaren. NOW THUMB THAT DOWN

    ..cheating, are u kidding?
U all bursted out on how Schumi will out-perform Lewis-or how the others (?) will. Now that that didn´t work out n ur freakinking excuse this time is he is a cheat.
Lewis is the best, that has happened to the motor sport world, generating such energy,that/which is the real sport. Media as a whole are bias, manipulation as usual, feeding fuel into something that has very little to do with the sport in question.
Lewis has as always being subjected b´cos of the colour of his skin...when has the whiteman`s media ever being correct to the letter???
    Ron Dennis IS a Lengend.

  20. Thank you, "Man-Friday". We're supposed to be discussing Silverstone, folks. There are some heated statements posted. Of course, I can't resist: "Maria" sounds like a chicken running around after its head's been cut off. I'm looking forward to seeing the race next week; I wish I could be there. As for Hamilton being a "cheat", I don't get that. He's got a lot of tenacity and he's fearless; 2 qualities that all F1 drivers need. I'm not a fan per se, but I respect him. And you Brits, I love your slang. "Gob", is hilarious! I have to remember that one.
