Scunthorpe's rookie goalkeeper Josh Lillis insists he is ready to step into the first team despite just two senior starts in two years. The 21-year-old is set to start the season opener against Leeds a week on Saturday with first choice Joe Murphy still struggling with a groin injury.
And the young keeper is determined to grab his chance by focusing on one game at a time.
"I think I'm ready," Lillis, who has also made two substitute appearances in his Scunthorpe career, told the club's official website. "I'm not going to look beyond the first game of the season or Grimsby even, I'll take the games as they come. Joe has been coming along well so we'll just have to see if he's fit to start pr not, but if he isn't I'll be there ready for it.
"The gaffer had told me that I will be number one until further notice, so I'll just take it from there.
"I just want to win games, do the best I can, and take the games as they come."
