Andriy Shevchenko faces a struggle to break into the Chelsea side under Luiz Felipe Scolari after the Brazilian hinted he has no chance of starting the Barclays Premier League opener against Portsmouth.
The Ukrainian striker has endured two disappointing years at Stamford Bridge following a big-money move from AC Milan.
Shevchenko came on as a substitute against Lokomotiv Moscow in the pre-season Railways Cup yesterday but missed the decisive penalty as Chelsea were beaten in a shootout.
The Blues will play Shevchenko's former club AC Milan in the third-place play-off on Sunday, but the striker will not play a major role.
Scolari said: "I came here to this tournament to look at my team for the game against Portsmouth and I need to prepare my team for that game.
"If I have a chance to put three or four more players into the game, I will. If not, I will follow my idea for the game against Portsmouth.
"I'm not thinking about giving Shevchenko a game. If I need to put him or Franco Di Santo in the game, I will, but my idea is about Portsmouth. I know 75% of my team. Now, maybe 85%."

people who think that going to chelsea kills their career are just thick ,if you look at the squad they have and there is allways competition for places so if you aint good enough you wont get in ,and they all knew the score before signing and wanted the challenge but lats face it parker and sidwell were no makalele and phillips is good but struggles with final balls so why would he take coles place,as for sheva he came injured on the back of the world cup struggled for the first year was injured for most of the second but still managed about 8 goals in 12 games so i just hope he gets a chance this season but with analka hitting some form and the drog who is one of the best in the world he really needs the form in which we all know he has .come on SHEVA
go and arsenal wins
Sidwell, Taib Haimu, Shaun Wright Phillips, the so called Batman and Robin, The Argintinian the list goes on you go to Chelsea a top player you leave as an unknown they all die there Alex is next .
Send him back to Milan. We will take him with open arms. We will even send the plane to pick him up.
I wonder why Chelsea is keeping Sheva if he no longer has any role to play. Indeed he has been a disappointment and he has struggled throughout the last two seasons. What is the point of keeping a flop like him?Is it because he is the boss's friend? The guy has lost confidence as well. What a shame.
yes very true when we signed sheva we thought we could win everything but to most people amzement he never did shine but who knows and what do you do with a £30 million pound flop on £130.000 a week wages i wonder if he feels that he a slave in ROMAN"S EMPIRE or just greatfull for getting paid for nothing as i dont see him play in the reserves team he proberly missed the penalty as loyalty towards his employer and friend who knows and as scolari says he not in his plans to play sheva so whats the anwser
no no shiva is not a good player at chelsea ???? so sell him and we wont for ROBINO
no no shiva is not a good player at chelsea ???? so sell him and we wont for ROBINO
KPB unfortunatley you hit the nail on the head great players seem to struggle with the bright lights of the Kings Road lets hope that changes with the arrival of the latest Portugeese duo
Sad but very true , GREAT player, What a shame
As a Milan player, Shevchenko was the business. Nothing like going to Chelsea to wreck your career now is there.?...lol... Parker, Wright phillips, Sidwell, amongst a few who have signed for them and realised that money isn't everything.
Sheva may be a personal friend of Abramovitch, but wish he had ended his career on a high, such a fantastic player before his Chelsea days, deserved a more fitting end to his career, he will end it unnoticed and a 'five minute sub.'
