Bolton have proposed a swap deal to West Brom about Abdoulaye Meite.
The Baggies are keen to sign Meite and have already had two bids rejected for the player, who fell out with manager Gary Megson last season.
And Bolton have now set out their demands for the Ivory Coast international.
"They made a bid and we didn't accept it, but Phil (Gartside, Bolton chairman) got in contact and asked whether we could do a straight swap," Megson told the Bolton News.
"The offer is with them now, so that is where we are with it."
Reports have linked both full-back Paul Robinson and midfielder Jonathan Greening with moves to Bolton in exchange for Meite.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray is eager to add to his defence after missing out on the signing of Madjid Bougherra, who opted for Rangers.

If this is true, then Megson should have a think about it, in what way is Greening worth the same as Meite. Neither for that matter is Robbo. I'm undecided over Meite but if Mowbray likes him he can't be bad, just a few more players and we will be alright.
Meite for Robinson & Greening, thats a joke. Straight swap for Robbo maybe but Greenings worth more than £2m and he`s a key part of our defence. We all know Megson and Piece dont get on but come on Gary you`v still got a big fan base at the Baggies.
