Hunt wins in Denmark

Eurosport - Sun, 02 Aug 13:31:00 2009

Britain's Jeremy Hunt won the fourth stage of the Tour of Denmark in Koge before Italian Maurizio Biondo won the individual time trial in Enkeltstart.

Jeremy Hunt, Cervelo, CYCLING - 0

Cervelo's Hunt, 35, was part of a four-man breakaway that finished 1:40 ahead of the Saxo Bank-led peloton which kept Jakob Fuglsang in yellow.

The Dane managed to fend off Ceramica Flaminia rider Biondo's evening challenge for the lead after taking fourth spot in the 15.5km time trial: the difference between them is just three seconds.

A tailwind helped Hunt's break, which also included his British team-mate Roger Hammond and local riders Daniel Holm Foder and Morten Voss, gain a maximum lead of five minutes on the peloton over the 115km trek from Korsor.

A rapid gallop to the finish saw that advantage reduced with Hunt outsprinting Holm Foder to the line with Hammond in third.

Hammond, having moved a long way up the GC to fourth after that fourth stage, went third with a solid performance on the evening's 15.5 km stage against the clock in Roskilde - he lies 47 seconds behind the leader, a second ahead of Denmark's Team Capinordic rider Rasmus Guldhammer.

Aleksey Saramotins (Designa Kokken) and Alex Rasmussen (Saxo Bank) were second and third in the ITT ahead of Fuglsang.

  1. Starting to feel pretty spoilt these days - hardly a week goes by without a Brit getting a major result - largely down to Cav winning pretty-much every sprint he contests, but also great to see such good performances from the likes of Hunt, Wiggo, Hammond, Millar, Lloyd etc. Can't wait for TeamSky next year...............who's joining??!!!

Looked like a break of 4 riders including team mate Roger Hammond who is now third overall.
Former British Road Race Champion Roger Hammond has been living and racing in Belgium for 15 or more years.
The English havn't been so good for some years.
