Keegan future is talk of the Toon

Tue 02 Sep, 01:15 PM

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is reportedly on the brink of leaving the club after holding a meeting with club owner Mike Ashley.Speculation in the north-east is mounting that Keegan's second reign as Newcastle boss could be drawing to a close.

Rumours began to circulate early on Tuesday morning after Keegan's hoped-for three or four major signings failed to materialise as the transfer window closed at midnight on Monday.

There were suggestions the 57-year-old had been called to a meeting with Ashley and Sky Sports News claim Keegan was absent from training at Darsley Park.

Keegan was appointed Newcastle manager for a second time on January 16 after the sacking of Sam Allardyce.

Following a glittering playing career with Liverpool, Newcastle and England he retired from playing in 1984.

Keegan returned to the game as Newcastle boss in 1992 before also going on to manage Fulham, England and Manchester City.

He went back to St James' Park earlier this year but was thought to be unhappy with restructuring at the club which saw Dennis Wise appointed as executive director (football).

Keegan recently claimed James Milner would not be sold - only for the midfielder to join Aston Villa in a £12million deal.

But having been unable to add to the signings of Argentinian pair Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez with several big-name stars, Keegan is believed to have become disillusioned with his lot at Newcastle.

  1. it's likely KK has gone. it's gone quiet now for lawyers to sort out the compensation. He has clearly been shafted by wise and ashley, they broke their promise for new players. Remember he did this last time and the board backed down.

i guess it was an ultimatum, give me control over transfers or I leave. given the lack of business b4 the the deadline I really can't blame him.

More annoying are the reports that the arab consortium that bought city, tried Liverpool, arsenal and NEWCASTLE b4 ending up with city.

    basically Ashley is an idiot.

  2. the borad are a bunch of tossers, why sack the best thing the club has got?

  3. Sorry Charlie and other Boro fans but Middlesbrough is in North Yorkshire. "Cleveland" is an administrative area and "Teeside" describes the region. It may be in the North East of England but Boro is a Yorkshire club. It doesn't make any difference to me like, but let's keep things accurate eh?

Back to the subject, I'm sick to death of what's happened at the club since Mike Ashley came along. It's one @#$%-up after another. Where else does the manager have no say in the acquisition of players? It was a recipe for disaster from the start.

...and there's me thinking that a club owner who wears the shirt and stands with the fans at away games would acutally give a @#$% about the club. How wrong I was.

  4. this is good to sack him because he dissapointed his fans by not signing a star player and 3-0 defeat at arsenal.that sure is blunt but kk its time to go

From The Magpies, on Tue 2 Sep 4:00PM
  5. To replace Kev with Den would not be a Wise move! As poor as his management skills are, both the fans and players like him, which is more than Ashley and his crew will ever be able to say about themselves.

  6. So your saying Middlesbrough aren't a North east Club. Your not all there mate. Thats why everyone in the North East hates Newcastle, because your deluded and you think your a better club than you are. YOUR RUBBISH and the BORO are officially the best club in the NORTH EAST. Sunderland are second. We are better than all the yorkshire clubs as well.

  7. NUFC.

No big dreams, so dream on.
KK had the dreams, but the board had others.
    Time to move on

  10. Typical Mackem, talk is cheap, you finished below us. Another SAFC supporter so obsessed with the Toon that he comes on our website! Keegan must not go, but if he does he has steadied the ship and lest we forget he again got us to be Top Dogs of the North East.

  11. Good to see the macca lads out in force, F**** all to sing about yourselves over the last few years ... and whats with the @#$% bridge you have

  12. Complete farce as usual at Newcastle. Keegan should never have come back and graced us with his presence. Dennis Wise the treacherous little toerag that he is can stay in his ivory tower in London and Ashley should join him. What a disgrace. Mackems all over the north east cant get any work done for laughing. Oh aye I forgot they wont be at work its a Tuesday isnt it.

  16. Until I see this plastered all over Sky Sports, BBC Sport and the Chronicle, I'm not believing he's gone. Newcastle's always been a caldroun of gossip, and this is no different.

Mike Ashley, bet he doesn't stand alongside fans for the next away game, he'll get lynched.
