Reading manager Steve Coppell has denied claims he rejected multi-million pound bids from Premier League clubs for two of his star players.

Reports claimed the Royals boss turned down a £3.5million bid from Everton for Stephen Hunt (pictured, left, celebrating with Doyle while playing for Ireland), while other rumours suggested Kevin Doyle could be leaving in a £7.5million switch to Aston Villa.

Coppell confirmed he had held talks with Everton boss David Moyes but stressed that no bid was made.

"I spoke with David Moyes, I think it was Sunday, and he was just making a call regarding a number of players and asking the situation. I explained the situation and never heard from him again," Coppell told the club's official website.

"Nobody at this club heard from anyone else at Everton so that was incorrect and just part of the media frenzy."

On Doyle, Coppell added: "As always there are agents trying to spark things up but from club to club there was no business. Nobody has phoned and offered money for Kevin for weeks."
