The transfer window may well now be closed until next year, but the never-ending flow of football gossip is unlikely to be stemmed between now and January 1.
So, in our new daily feature, we will be rounding up the best of it before serving it up for you in an easily-digestible package every morning.
To kick things off, Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka is said to be angry and frustrated after discovering he will not be getting a new contract this season. The Frenchman's current deal runs until the end of next season, but the Blues have a policy of not offering players over 30 contract extensions until they are in their final year (Daily Star).
Twenty-eight-year-old Ashley Cole will, however, complete a new £120,000-a-week, five-year deal when he returns to Chelsea from international duty (Daily Express).
Richard Dunne is expected to complete his £6m move from Manchester City to Aston Villa today after the Premier League, snowed under by paperwork ahead of yesterday's transfer deadline, asked for more time to ratify the deal. "There have been numerous cases in the past where similar transfers have taken a little longer than expected to be confirmed and we believe everything is in order," a Villa spokesperson said.
But for all the deals done yesterday, many fell through with Tottenham leading the way, despite their capture of Niko Kranjcar. Spurs missed out on four potential acquisitions: David James, Anton Ferdinand, Mathew Upson and Martin Petrov (The Guardian).
Having failed to seal a move to Spurs, Portsmouth keeper James now fears for his place in Fabio Capello's World Cup plans (Daily Mirror).
Nicky Shorey snubbed a move to Portsmouth so he could fight for his place at Aston Villa (The Sun).
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce failed with three deadline bids - Maynor Figueroa, Ahmed Al Muhammadi and Lucas Neill (The Sun).
Stoke narrowly missed out on the capture of Bayern Munich defender Christian Lell after the German club could not locate the right-back to conclude a £3m deal (Daily Mail).
Newcastle keeper Steve Harper has told Toon owner Mike Ashley to dig deep into his pockets if the current Championship leaders are to win promotion this year. The loan market remains open for Championship clubs (Daily Star).
Former Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd is set to be named new Colchester manager. He was spotted watching the Us on Saturday, despite attempting to disguise himself with a baseball cap (Daily Star).
In the light of Arsenal striker Eduardo's ban for "deceiving the referee", The Daily Mail have launched a 'No diving' campaign, complete with the kind of picture normally found at the shallow end of a swimming pool.

HAHAHAHAHA YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
according to last year he is our best striker plus he is a joy to watch when he is on the ball and we already seen that drogba and anelka are deadly together so i think we should keep him i also think that since we lost shevchenko ;(((( we should get another good striker. pato wud be absolutly fukin awesome
Trivia Bonus Question..
Hi Guys..
Is Carlo Ancelotti,Harry Redknapp,Martin O'Neil,David Moyes & hell even Gianfranco Zola a far better manager than that Fat Spanish P***K??..i would say YES!!!..he is rather 'S***E"!!!!!..
SHOCK HORROR!! LE SULK NOT HAPPY!! Whats new?? he will never be happy unless he is the absolute centre of attention, when he was at city he was the main man, he was then happy, at Chelsea he is not top of the pecking order anymore since Drogba's return to fitness and form so again, toy's out of the pram, he's had more clubs than woosnam's caddy and will never, ever settle while his brothers constantly twitter in his ear that there is a better deal to be had elsewhere.
42 careful Ray, with a comment like that he will be arranging to meet you and then beat you up
The guy that wants to 'anonimously' [spelt right?] beat people up like the phoneyp feller must be really tough....or have a good imagination !!!!
ARSE!
You can not trust the Red Tops, stories must be slim today eh, someone with his skill and goal scoring capability will always have a contract.
More bull from the Daily Star
Of course he's unhappy. It's Nicolas Anelka
psycho p message board 25, you can not be more correct, with Anelka having played for Liverpool, Arsenal and now Chelsea, the next place he'd probably be moving to is Man U who are reckoned for buying old players like PAPA-OWEN
gadgets_free, Got them thanks, but if you do come across a site telling me how to get my hands on a BMW X5 I would be interested.
It's obvious that Harry didn't want Calamity., Gomes has turned his game around and gained his confidence since Parkesy came in to coach him and Cudicini is still quality. It'll be interesting to see who plays once Gomes is fit but it's a great problem to have. I was never happy about the James rumours. Pity about Upson, if that was true, he's quality, unsure about Ferdinand though, let him prove himself at Sunderland first, Petrov is a disappointment but I still rate Bentley,he didn't want to leave according to Harry on SkySports.
yeah.. anelka at manu should be fantastic... with rooney.. they would be the best pair...
phoneyp is watching in the wings, marking everyone down, what a sad life he leads, thats when he's not threatening to beat people up which seems to give him the most pleasure. SADDO
I thik foeyp is probably a little fat man with glasses and a runny nose that has been bullied all his life and this is his 'therapy'...you know...to make him feel wanted too cos this way he is he gets lots of attention..... I reckon ignore him and then, just like a bad smell, he'll just fade away.
Anelka...yes he has his own little demons hence he has been around a bit but I still wish he played for my team. He plays with vision and passion...so he doesn't smile a lot ??? if you want to see a joker go to a comedy club. I too think he would be an excellent addition at Man. United and would be superb alongside Rooney who, unlike Drogba, would not be so jealous and childish around him.
Have a great day folks !!!!
foeyp; it would appear everyone hates you too. None of us wish death on you, but hey, I have no control over the trains.
First there was the offer of free gifts!
