Premier League - You say Ramos is a goner

Eurosport - Thu, 02 Oct 14:35:00 2008

Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos will be out of the club before the end of the season, according to eurosport.yahoo.com readers.

FOOTBALL Juande Ramos Premier League Tottenham - 0

Almost two-thirds of the 6,650 who voted believe that Spurs' awful start to the season - rock-bottom of the Premier League with just two points after six matches - will have the Spanish coach searching for new employers by May, with 65 per cent of readers predicting his departure.

Despite spending extensively on several new players in the summer, Tottenham have accrued only half the number of points as Derby County had at the same point last season, and the Rams went on to be relegated with a record-low total of just 11 points.

Some Spurs fans on the Eurosport-Yahoo! Message boards have seen enough of the man who led Sevilla to two UEFA Cups, a Champions League place and close to winning La Liga, and want him out.

StevieParkLane: "Ramos has won two league games in the whole of 2008, if that ain't relegation form I don't know what is, and most of those were with Keane and Berb. Ramos must take the blame, his selections are often stupid, playing players out of position, persevering with that muppet Jenas."

p.harmsworth: "Whilst on paper the squad looks good enough to at least do reasonably well the fact is that they are not playing as a team and that is down to the manager."

However, there are plenty of fans who square the blame firmly with the board, citing the way they handled the sales of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov to Liverpool and Manchester United respectively, as well as the sacking of Ramos's predecessor Martin Jol as reasons for the club's current plight.

Evil bread man: "Blame Comolli, blame Levy, perhaps blame Poyet. It's certainly not Ramos's fault. We SHOULD have got rid of Berbs earlier. It would've given us a chance to get someone in. Ramos has now had to deal with what he's got."

Andy C: "The way we are going, I'd like the senior non-footballing management eg Commolli axed. Levy can stay on if he is not making football related decisions. I feel sorry for Ramos. Give him this season, and if we don't improve, I'll take Martin Jol back any day."

  1. firstly, he wrong to sell defoe to portsmouth and put wrong formation, what for put 4-5-1, instead of 442. the team can't score goals and ramos put 1 striker upfront, stupid to put bent on bench. the keeper gomes young but damn low-par techni

  2. david g, Ramos didn't have a grudge against Defoe. In fact, he said at the time that he wanted to keep him - it was all that ***** Levy thinking he had business nouce again - he thought it made the wisest business sense to sell him as he only had 18 months on his contract.

There's no point in getting rid of Ramos - I don't rate him but if we do we'll just have to go through this all over again... and again and again with each new manager. Let him see it out - he's go the team he wants now (theoretically...), let's see what he can do with them. The board never wanted Jol so they never gave him the support Ramos has, so if he uses it well he should do better than him.

  3. Ramos maybe be a gonner, but the board havent made his job easy.wheres the cash to buy class players, klaas van huntelaar would be great at spurs.you guys better get busy/ jan transfer window.back the manager, your club has European history, there will be 3 worse clubs than you in this league come end of the season,a team like spurs dont lose for long/could be worse guys you could be newcatsle.who look like there gonna be playing championship footie next season

  5. Can't be a leader if you can't speak the lingo. No hope of inspiring the lads. And as for the board, and Levy, can;t be inspiring if you are money-grubbers.

  6. oh no not more speculation started by the media ,you would think whats happened at newcastle would keep the vultures happy for a few months ,but oh no they need to keep their act fresh ,so in they wheel their next victims for the public to give their response too, give good they look for a new target ,give bad and they continue with it

but heres a new one for all you so called journalists ,why havent you wrote one single good report on tony pulis and stoke ,or tony mowbray and WBA ,personally i cant wait till it all goes pair shaped at sunderland and you start picking on roy keane ,i think the day you w*****s go after him ,will be the day a mananger fights back and kicks the f**k out of all them

  7. don't think Ramos should go. simple enough it looks like the board have been too hasty and that the target set for Martin Jol was actually stupid because the squad depth he had then wasn't good enough to challenge for the top 4. it could be the players fault instead or even the managers' for that fact. let him finish the season and bring in some good TEAM players next season would be my plan.

  9. What people have forgotten, because of CC success. We had a truly appalling set of results after CC,right up to end of season, often losing heavily at home. The writing was on the wall then,as we stopped getting goals after that time.Ramos fiddled too much and had a personal grudge against Defoe. We are losing and worse playing very very poorly.Levy is in the process of selling the club, and news might come in a week.Any newcomer will give Ramos the boot

  10. I have been a tottenham fan since 1967 - We do have players with flair and on paper they are excellent but they dont play as a team - why. Is this the England Way - As with National Team - they think they are too good to play. They need discipline. I read recently that Bemtly goes to the pub regularly - though I understand they have to relax but should professional footballers be going to the pub night before a match.

Ramos has a prooven record but he can not make the players play on field that is the players. Since Berbatov and Keane have gone we have been @#$% but if someone does not want to play for the club they should be sold - Berba sulked his way through his last few matches did not want to play for us. Was seen signing a Man U shirt - he should off gone end of last season - even if it meant loosing 5 million. Keane apparently wanted to play for his boyhood team - I dont have a prob with that if its true. He was a great player for the club always did his best.

My niggle is why buy Palychenko if he plays the same as Bent ???? doesnt make sense.

Why are we playing people out of position?

Lenon has great speed but what is the point if he cant pass???

Gomes overall has played well I Believe and has been a good buy.

I Believe the next 4 matches will define our season - loose and championship will beckon - Win and the start will soon be forgotten.

Will Ramos be here at the end of season - I think it is present day football - to get rid of managers who dont win win win - he needs more games to get his team right and we desperately need another striker - Ive never rated Bent - so he scored pre season but who did we play when it matters he cant score.

  11. get curbs in, go on i need a laugh. How can anyone want rid of ramos. Ok the start maybe slow but in time all will come good. Remember what he did in spain, and that was on a low budget. Also there is so much money in the prem now new players really do have to gel straight away. But hey being a westham fan this is great. And at least you are not as deluded as those newcastle fans

  12. Here we go again. Another "promising" season going sour. Personally, I didn't mind Berbatov leaving; struck me as a moody bugger who wasn't a team player. Keane apparently joined the team he's always supported. Fair enough, we got good money for both. But why leave it so late, and if, as we're now told, this had been foreseen for some time, why sell Defoe? I still think we have a good enough squad, but ffs play guys in their correct positions. Suggestions - keep Ramos; to change again would make us look worse that Toon, and I think he'll come good eventually. Play with width, make Woodgate vice-captain. Ditch 4-5-1, and Comolli (what's he for?). COYS.

  13. Jol was the victim of his own success. He achieved too much too quickly. As proven with Man U and I hate to say it Arsenal, Managers need time. Jol would have weathered the poor start last season and we could have been genuine contenders in the next couple of years. He was treated appallingly by the board and in a way I think the majority of neutral supporters would say that it serves us right. We are light years away now from realistically challenging. Same Old Spurs.

  14. keith watson- fergie cant speak english but he still gets great team effort- spurs have got a good young striker on loan! play him- he might surprise you.

  16. well i guess the phrase we made our bed and have to lay in it rings home now. I really dont think that scurrying around pointing the finger is going to help, yes there have been bad decisions made and yes people should be held to account for their actions but the main thing to do right now is sort the team out. I dont think playing one striker is the answer, all the opposition need to do is mark him out of the game!! Alas we dont have anybody to match pavluchenko with up front certainly not bent. We should of stopped faffing around and got Arshavin and also kept Berbatov after all he was still under contract and the club also had and option to extend his contract to which he had already signed. So what is he going to do he needs to play if he didnt put 100% then he sits on the bench week after week. Come on spurs you are a big club so start behaving like it after all do you think you would be able to buy Torres ,Rooney or Lampard of course not you know the clubs would not sell unless they had a reason to (end of contract etc). Please drop Jenas and play Huddlestone and Zakora in the middle of the park. Its a long time until January

From Rich B, on Thu 2 Oct 12:05AM
  17. One thing i will say. How is he supposed to get the respect of the players when he can't even string a sentence together using english. He may speak a little of broken English, but thats not good enough.

  18. ceekoon82.............I agree, and i am a Spurs fan. They have to give him time. You can't keep changing managers and expect consistency. Stick with him and he will turn it around.

  19. Not being a Spurs fan (thank god) i have been waiting for this scenario.
The bord gets rid of half of Ramos`s team and he doesnt really get any chance to replace them as his two main strikers left so late in the window.
The board pockets the money,Ramos has half a team.
The fans get on his back.
    Next thing we know.
    Sack Ramos.
    Sad Club.

But perhaps it is payback for the dispicable way they treated Martin Jol.
