Southgate starts striker search

Under-pressure Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has hinted he is searching for a new striker following Caleb Folan's injury.

Republic of Ireland international Folan tore a hamstring in training earlier this month shortly after he agreed to move on loan from Hull.

Now Southgate is considering bringing in a new forward after hearing Folan will be sidelined for six weeks.

"We've got to make sure we have good strikers available. In many ways it's the most important area," he told Sky Sports.

"Caleb's injury is a relatively long one so it's something we`ll have to look at. We still have three strikers fit and we've got competition for places.

"What we will look at is whether we've got the right sort of cover for all situations. It's something we are looking at closely."
