Talmacsi led much of the half hour session, but home hero Faubel struck back with a minute to go. Talmacsi then literally matched the Spaniard, before Faubel pulled 0.146secs clear on his final lap.
Sergio Gadea made it an Aspar Aprilia one-two-three, and his performance could prove critical on Sunday since countryman Faubel needs at least one rider between himself and Talmacsi to take the title - even if he wins.
