The 19-year-old England star was carried off 73 minutes into the 1-0 victory after twisting his knee in a challenge with Kevin Nolan and there were fears that the blow could be long-term.

But further examination has shown nothing more than bruising.

"Micah [Richards] has bruised his medial meniscus cartilage in his right knee but there is no serious or long-term damage," the club said on their website.

"His condition will continue to be assessed on a daily basis."

City qualified for the quarter finals of the competition after Elano's late penalty was followed by a match-saving goal-line clearance from Michael Ball.
