Barichello and Hulkenberg sign up for Williams

Mon, 02 Nov 09:36:19 2009

PARIS (AFP) - The Williams Formula One team announced on Monday that their drivers for next year will be veteran Brazilian Rubens Barichello and German rookie Nico Hulkenberg.

The Oxford-based team struggled throughout the just-concluded season when Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were the drivers and the former world champion outfit finished a lowly seventh in the constructors championship.

"Team leader Frank Williams said: "Rubens needs no introduction. He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula One, but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the drivers championship this year.

"Nico Hulkenberg won the GP2 Championship this season as a rookie and has previously won the F3 Euroseries, Formula Masters, A1 GP and Formula BMW Germany.

"Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima remain our drivers until the end of 2009 and I would like to thank them for their contribution to the team."

  1. Well Good Luck to Rubens; nd thanks to him for his undoubted contributions to Brawn's success this year.
I doubt either Brawn or Ferrari would hve achieved what they did without him; he's just not a team leader nor a champion. He is though a GREAT TEAM PLAYER and a good bloke

  2. Infact rubens must be dreaming that finally he is the number one driver in a team, only to wake up to reality at the end of the first race.....lol.... Rubens, you lack character in your drive, you can never be number one, you couldnt match up to Button in the same equipment, forget matching Nico.

  4. I don't really understand why Rubens is leaving Brawn??? Maybe it was those mad rants at the beginning of the season? It does not look attractive for sponsors. But he was cheap and fast!

  5. It is a great pairing for Williams mixing unmatched experience and development skills with raw talent. This hasn't been a bad year for the team except for a failure to reproduce qualifying pace in the race and one driver who failed to score a single point. They have the ability to engineer a winning car and if the Cosworth engine is good they should be challenging next year.
