Andy Murray, who has been sidelined with a wrist injury since the Davis Cup defeat to Poland in September, has said he is ready for his return to action in Valencia.
The world number four plays his first-round match against Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver on Tuesday.
"The wrist is fine," the Scot said. "I'm still icing it and exercising it but it's tough to do too much about it specifically.
"I've played two matches in nine weeks, so I wouldn't be surprised if I play poorly at first, but I will try my best."
Elsewhere in Valencia, Nikolay Davydenko made a smooth start to his latest bid to grab a place at the World Tour Finals with a 6-2 6-1 first-round win over qualifier Alejandro Falla at the Valencia Open.
A title for the Russian world number seven would go a long way to securing one of two remaining spots in London at the end of this month.
Seeded second behind Murray, Davydenko broke Colombian Falla five times, losing his own serve once, and came through in just over an hour to set up a clash against Juan Monaco or Martin Vassallo Arguello at the hard court event.
Frenchmen Gilles Simon and Gael Monfils and Spain's Tommy Robredo are all in action on Tuesday, with all three still in with a slim chance of securing a place at the season-ending event in London from November 22-29.

.Hurra, Andy is back ! Still the other players won't be so pleased. He should have re charged his batteries now and able to continue his rise to the top. He's such a hard worker behind the scenes. Easy to admire his qualities of talent, determination and focus.
IT WAS SO NICE NOT TO HEAR ABOUT MURRAY IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS...
What do all you Murray haters hope to achieve by your nasty comments? There are a few players I don't like but I keep my feelings to myself, they are my business not yours.
I for one would like to read constructive comments not hate messages.
Answer.
All of this is due to Simon Reed (the real number one), and Eurosport, which is biased!

Who cares, anyway will not win even one more important tournament !
It remains to be seen whether Murray will be as determined as Nadal after his reurn from injury lay-off. Very unlikely, as otherwise, he would have won atleast one Grand Slam by now.
who cares u return or not...Mr Murray. U can't win the title anyway!! MARK MY WORDS
