Guinness Premiership champions Leicester have signed 67-times capped former Australia wing Lote Tuqiri.
The 30-year-old dual-code international (pictured) will begin training with his new colleagues this week after being sacked by the Wallabies in July for reasons thought to be in "breach of contract".
The news of the Tuqiri's signing comes on the same week that the Wallabies arrived in England for their tour of Europe.
"To have someone of Lote's undoubted class available and interested in coming to Leicester is excellent news," Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill said in a statement.
"Lote has had interest from a lot of clubs around Europe, and the fact that he chose to come here says a lot about him. We're very happy he has chosen Leicester Tigers.
"He has been very successful at the top levels of the game and I'm sure our supporters are looking forward to seeing him in a Tigers shirt.
"He is a world-class player and is still hungry to achieve things in the game. Now we're looking forward to getting him into training and competing for a place in the team."
Originally a rugby league star with Brisbane Broncos, Fiji-born Tuqiri switched to the 15-man code in 2002 and played his Super 14 rugby in New South Wales with the Waratahs.
He scored 31 tries for Australia, including one in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final against England.
"I've played in England a number of times, in league and union, and I'm looking forward to getting to work at Leicester Tigers," Tuqiri said.
"This is a successful club, and that is one of the main reasons for coming here.
"This is a new challenge, coming to a new league in a new country, and it is one I am really looking forward to. There are a lot of good players here and now I'm just looking forward to getting started."
Leicester, who won the Premiership last season before losing in the final of the Heineken Cup to Leinster, are currently fourth in the English club standings.

he has not signed for any other team, including west tigers, his contract with leicester runs out at the end of our season, so thats could be june, depending on how far we go. and his contract also has possiblities in it for extending it for another season, depending on how he feels and how he gets on with tigers.
he hasnt signed with west tigers because NRL austrailia rules state that they can not sign anyone whilst they are on another cross code contract... or something along those lines.
im an NRL supporter from Australia, tuqiri has only signed their until march, and then he will play in the NRL for the Wests Tigers..........his only joined this rugby team to get him up to match fitness!
Could be a great signing but he is 30 years old and has not played in a few months. Will wait until after christmas before I pass any judgement. I would also be interested to find out why he dumped from his contract in Australia. Does anyone know?? As an Irish rugby fan I can't say I'm over the moon to hear that Leicester have made a signing such as this.
Alan, I agree with you. Strength in depth is what Tigers are all about, its the squad that counts and not so much the team.
Tuqiri is a great signing from that point of view and I wouldn't assume that he'd walk straight into the team and stay there, he's going to have to prove himself to get a jersey.
Joe, as for foreigners coming in taking all the English players places and playing for the money, that couldn't be further from the truth. I don't think you can say that Geordan Murphy, Castro, Mauger, Hamilton, Alex Tuilagi are just there for the pay packet. They love the club and play their socks off whenever they're in the team.
They don't automatically get picked and the Tigers academy produce many great players a lot of which progress up to international level.
Joe
currently all the decent English players are with the England squad. we couldnt play them last weekend. So this gives us a star player to run out in their absence.
Leicesters strength in depth has always been one of the reasons they are always in the mix at the end of the season. With 19 players unavailable last weekend, we need it.
Tigers Tigers burning bright ,ready to give others a fright!!!
And yet another player holding a starting position keeping a potential England player out, when will you guys learn? The Rugby Premiership will end up the same as the football..Full of Foreign players, playing fo rthe money and not really caring about club honours.
only a premiership club as big us us could attract such a big star "Tigers Tigers"
Great signing......as a Tigers fan could'nt be happier.
World class player for a world class club :-)
