Brazilian Rubens Barrichello will begin a new chapter in his record-breaking Formula One career next year as a Williams driver alongside German rookie Nico Hulkenberg.
"Rubens needs no introduction," team founder Frank Williams said in a statement announcing his all-new line-up for 2010.
"He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula One but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the drivers' championship this year.
"Nico Hulkenberg won the GP2 Championship this season as a rookie and has previously won the F3 Euroseries, Formula Masters, A1 GP and Formula BMW Germany."
Hulkenberg was also the team's test and reserve driver this season.
Williams thanked departing German driver Nico Rosberg, the highly-rated 24-year-old who is expected to take Barrichello's place alongside Jenson Button at Mercedes-powered champions Brawn GP, and Japan's Kazuki Nakajima.
"Nico and Kazuki have represented... Williams and our partners with dedication, discipline and skill and we wish them every success with their future endeavours," he said.
Toyota-backed Nakajima, son of former racer Satoru, ended the season in Abu Dhabi on Sunday with the unfortunate distinction of completing all 17 races without scoring a point.
Williams have already announced that they are switching to Cosworth engines from Toyota.
Rosberg, son of Finland's 1982 champion Keke, had already announced last week that he was leaving after four seasons with Williams.
Barrichello, who entered Formula One in 1993 before his close friend and compatriot Ayrton Senna died in his Williams at Imola in 1994, will be the first race-winner to drive for the team since Colombia's Juan Pablo Montoya and Germany's Ralf Schumacher in 2004.
Williams will be his sixth team after Jordan, Stewart, Ferrari, Honda and Brawn.
Williams have not won anything since 2004 but Barrichello, winner of two races with Brawn this season, said at the weekend that he hoped to be challenging for victories again next year.
"I am very hopeful of having a very competitive car next year, so that is what I want from myself. I want to go on and keep on winning," he said.
"Everyone would look at a position at Williams, because it is one of the best teams out there and it is on the way up," added the Brazilian, championship runner-up to Michael Schumacher at Ferrari in 2002 and 2004.
The 37-year-old is Formula One's most experienced driver, with a record 285 races to his name and 11 victories. He is now on course to become the first driver to have started 300 grands prix.
Brawn GP team principal Ross Brawn wished Barrichello well in a statement that read: "We are very pleased for Rubens that he will be driving in Formula One once again next year. Rubens was with our team for four years and we regard him as a highly experienced and talented driver whose contribution to the team over that period was significant.
"2009 was a very special season for Brawn GP and I am extremely proud of the spirit in which our drivers Rubens and Jenson fought for the Drivers' Championship. Rubens contributed hugely to our success in the Constructors' Championship with two great victories in Valencia and Monza along with numerous podiums and he was a pleasure to work with.
"We wish Rubens the very best with his new team and thank him for his contribution to Brawn GP this year."

but i think alot of people are gonna be koba fans before to long.....well if toyota is competitive next year....and if he signs on with them.
So Williams have signed the moody man child
What a Big Girl Bruce, you really are like a child!!!
Well said wizzo. Doncha just love these armchair experts who know all there is to know about the abilities of a top-flight professional but with only ZERO experience themselves. lol
Why not Fisichella and Barrichello? We've seen that new drivers in big teams don't do well: (apart from Hamilton, but that's a different story). Surely the new teams should have the new drivers!
Time to retire post 78? Barri has proved time and time again he is on the ball and if anything he will end the on/off performance Rosberg had in the team.
Rubens - though I like him, is simply not up to the task. Rumour has it that despite strong qualifying and advantageous position in Brazil, he was tired after a few laps. Williams have more or less said they took him on because of his experience, which will prove useful for young Nico and not for his inate ability. Time to retire Rubens.
Rubens must be dreaming he is finally the number one in a team..... lol
Nico is going to beat him probably from the first race and again all the fans of the gentleman will start complaining that he was treated as a second fiddle again...lol.... Rubens, do us all a favour, go home!
Tell you what I hope is that he gets a good competative car to drive ,because he is one of the true gents still left in F1.......Go for it Rubbens.
potters mum had sex with a donkey the donkey later died of VD POTTER NOW IS FATHERLESS
this is why he is very jealous of Lewis's dad
The Great Briton and proud Englishman Lewis Hamilton will beat the German boy Nico next season...Lewis is BY FAR the SUPERIOR driver and the McLAREN have the SUPERIOR cars to Brawn..fact...
Button will not win the WDC ever again. His title is pure fluke. Hamilton on the other hand had to fight like a REAL racing driver for his 2008 title....Button = spawny brawny tw at...
Mclaren take 3rd in constructors...ferrfarti 4th...LMFAO.
Mclaren win ...2010.....
Hamilton WDC....2010....
HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA..... Button will become Nico's whipping boy next season....Ross will do the same next season as he did at Ferrfarti except Button will be the "new" Barrichello ..hahahahahaaaaa.......
-----------------))))))McLAREN (((((((-----THE TOTAL KINGS OF F1-----)))))))
1. post offa the a season
2. No driver in the history of F1 had been as well groomed by a team as Lewis was by Mclaren. More than ten years and millions of dollars of investment. This gave him a head start via thousands of miles of simulator and on-track testing that has been unavailable to any rookie before or since.
3. Ron Dennis quickly came to the conclusion that he would rather Mclaren's "Product" (in Lewis) succeeded over Alonso and did all that he could to alienate Fernando from the team after Monaco, despite the fact that this action cost him and Mercedes both championships that year.
4. Alonso was promised the earth by Dennis in 2005 and when Lewis got it instead in the way of management support, Alonso, as reigning Champion, was understandably irritated. The fact that Dennis had LIED to the FIA over the spying saga was a handy weapon for Alonso, and while it may have been petulant to use it it's not like he made anything up.
5. And finally, the Bridgestone Control tyres introduced for 2007, massively disadvantaged Alonso (and Raikkonen and Kubica) and it took Fernando half the year to get comforatble with them. Whereas Lewis was carrying on with the sort of rubber he'd had in GP2 and the transition was far more natural to adapt to his over-steery style. If you look at 2006 testing on Michelin rubber, Alonso was 0.5 seconds faster than Lewis at every test. When the Bridgestones were brought in this trend was reversed
