World Cup - England ready to raid Germany

Eurosport - Mon, 02 Nov 11:19:00 2009

Fabio Capello is plotting World Cup glory for England and he is leaving no stone unturned in a bid to turn that dream into a reality.

2006 Germany Under-21 Aaron Hunt - 0

Having banned the World Cup song for fear of it distracting the players, Capello is turning his attentions to bolstering his ranks and a player born and raised in Germany is rumoured to have crossed his radar.

Aaron Hunt, who has represented Germany at youth levels, is making waves in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen.

Hunt scored both goals to rescue Werder at the weekend and the Daily Mail is claiming he is the subject of enquiries from England.

The forward qualifies for England by virtue of having an English mother and the 23-year-old could switch allegiance as he has not yet earned a full cap for Germany.

The Mail headline 'Revealed, the German striking ace England are out to pinch' certainly catches the eye.

But whether it has much substance is up for debate as Germany name their squad for friendlies against Chile and Ivory Coast later this month and Werder coach Thomas Schaaf feels his charge is good enough to figure.

"If you think about some of the names who are being considered for the German national team, then Aaron surely deserves to get a chance. He is in very good physical condition at the moment," said Schaaf.

"I don't want to say he belongs in the national team, but if he continues to play so consistently then he could be an option.

  9. It depends really. The english national team is better than the german national team however Germany often see to get easier routes to the final. Who would be more successful? I don't know? But he should certantly go for the team who he thinks will be more successful.

  13. This must NEVER happen! The whole point of international football is nation v nation. It's outrageous enough that we don't have an English manager, but a foreign player is way over the line. It's not racist, it's not bigoted, it's simply stating the obvious. Bad enough that the English premier league already tolerates a completely foreign Arsenal team...

  14. This is a tough decision for anyone! I think if he has played already as a German national he should stay with the Germans. It makes us look desperate steeling German players!

  15. Post 67 Shanenorth ..re-your question.the answer could be yes. on the other hand, his grandfather on his mothers side could also have been dropping bombs on germany, but why bring this up on a sports artical. if you want to talk about politics go over to a political blog, there are many of them..as it so happens, my son also carries dual blood inhis veins,, German and English. and if he had become a footballer, which unfortunately he did'nt, especially now with what they are earning. I would have been happy for him to have played for whichever of the two countries picked him. I myself would still wish an England win, ...

@104 a u ***in $hi*** me or wat? our defence is what lets us donw? excuse me the best player in the team(and thats another reason y he is a captain) is a centreback u idiot and he is the best centreback in the world if u didnt know his name is john terry and if u want i cud name u about 10 defenders who would be good enough for the national team anyday, and i think that all 4 defenders in the team at the moment are world class and there is no doubt about it.
