Simon Cox was delighted to see his patience pay off as he seized the opportunity of a rare start with a goal in West Brom's 5-0 thumping of Watford.
The striker made the step up from League One football in the summer after signing from Swindon and spoke of his relief after proving he is not out of his depth by opening his account in just his second Championship start.
He told the club's official website: "It's been hard but I have just had to work hard and bide my time - and I was happy to do so.
"But when you feel you've got a point to prove, it's nice just to get out there and play.
"If you can score a goal it is even better.
"Confidence is high now and I just hope I can build on that goal."
