Premier League - Two weeks out for Joe Cole

Tue, 02 Nov 13:00:00 2010

Joe Cole will be out for two weeks following the hamstring injury he sustained in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Bolton on Sunday.

The England midfielder was assessed by the Melwood medical staff and the results of the scan have indicated he will face a brief spell on the sidelines.

Dr Peter Brukner, Liverpool's head of sports medicine and sports science, said: "The scan confirmed Joe has sustained a hamstring strain. It is not a serious injury but still means he is likely to be out for two weeks."

That means Cole will miss out on facing his old club Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

Boss Roy Hodgson has backed Cole to make a quick return from his injury and recapture the form that saw him become one of the hottest properties in Europe.

"There have been flashes of quality - notably the ball he produced for (Fernando) Torres in the win over Blackburn," said Hodgson.

"I think Joe has done well in that he is so committed, he works his socks off and he wants to do well here. He is a quality player. But we haven't seen the best of him. Absolutely not. There is more to come from him and he knows that."

  1. G you obviously are a sloth the discussion and banter about American owners at Liverpool was about a month ago, or has it taken this long to sink in to your f.u.c.k.I.n vegetable head? Obviously a filthy manc from Deli.

  5. Hey Stephen look at it this way, Chelsea was done with him because he wasn't worth the money he wanted. Puddle gave it to him. IS he worth it? Well you said yourself 1 goal and 3 assists, also a red card, suspension, and now an injury. Plus where is your team in the league? Glad he helps Puddle win games and league points. Oh wait a minute...................

  7. Joe Cole has flashes of brilliance but is a tad inconsistent. Roy's packed his midfield with 2 great players Gerard, Meireles but cole is not firing on all cylinders every game. I think he may be trying to hard to prove he's not just a cast off. he needs to relax and enjoy his football. If its a choice between Poulsen and Cole.... bring on Cole injured or not.

  11. Lots of people thought Joe would be a bargain because he was a Free Transfer. However I had my doubts.Carlo Ancelotti didnt want him and certainly Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wengar didnt think he was a bargain.Manchester City had no interest and Fabio Capello does not consider him for England.I doubt whether they can all be wrong and Joe Cole on his incredible costly salary could turn out to be a very expensive mistake

  13. No great loss he looks jaded on the pitch and unfit, LFC should let him recover and get him on a fitness programme as he looks miles away from beeing fully fit. Maybe the Cole will spark back to life again.

I know Chelsea fans have turned on him, but Cole is a decent player on his day, Koncheski on the other hand is miles out of his depth, the young lad Kelly look 10 times the player.

  20. Remember when he was rejected by Chelski and the first words out of his mouth was that he'd always admired ManU ? It seems to me that's being played down a bit. Never mind,we can all see why SAF passed on that one.I guess Liverpool offered more money than Spurs, though I bet they are wondering why right now. They'd be better off with Nat King Cole .
