The penultimate stage not only of the rally but of the whole 2007 World Rally Championship has been completed, and once agin Jari-Matti Latvala was shining as he took yet another win. The Stobart Ford driver completed his run with a fastest time of 16'11"6.
Marcus Grönholm took second place, no longer thinking of winning the championship in view of his arch-rival's constant pace. "I don't think it will happen," he said during the service break.
Works Subaru driver Petter Solberg reached third position on this run, just ahead of Ford's Mikko Hirvonen. Citroën Sport teammates Dani Sordo and Sébastien Loeb took the fifth and sixth spots, with the latter driver now only one stage away from claiming an amazing fourth WRC crown.
Seventh-placed Henning Solberg of the Stobart Ford team preceded Mads Ostberg's Adapta Subaru Impreza. Rounding off the top ten aboard another Stobart car, Matthew Wilson crossed the finish line ahead of Subaru's Xevi Pons.
If things remain as they are on the leaderboard, Mikko Hirvonen is heading for a fourth rally win this season. 29.8 seconds behind, Marcus Grönholm will be bringing his rally career to an end by securing a one-two finish for the Ford team. Seébastien Loeb will be taking the third step of the podium, but more importantly, a fourth WRC title.
The final stage of Wales Rally GB will begin shortly.
