Southampton midfielder Jason Euell remains confident his side can challenge for the play-offs this season despite their inconsistency.Saints are still marooned in mid-table after two battling away draws were followed by a disappointing 3-0 home defeat by Watford on New Year's Day.

"I'm still very confident we can challenge for promotion, we know what we are about and what we've got in the dressing room," said Euell.

"We know we have got the character and the belief to win games and we know we can do that.

"I definitely believe we can still get into the play-offs. If we can get two or three wins we can be right back in the mix."

Saints boss George Burley has released Cameroon centre-half Lucien Mettomo, who failed to make a single appearance in his short spell on the south coast.
