Brown delighted with debut goal

Sun 03 Feb, 05:00 PM

Bradford teenager David Brown was left pinching himself after scoring with his first touch in league football in the 1-0 win at Macclesfield. The striker, 18, was presented with an open goal following a moment of madness from Macclesfield goalkeeper Jonny Brain, who fluffed a simple clearance after a long punt forward by Kyle Nix 15 minutes from time.

Brown said: "It was a dream start. I couldn't believe it. I didn't realise at first that he had missed the ball, but when I saw it at my feet I couldn't miss."

Bradford goalkeeper Scott Loach then showed Brain how it should be done by saving Terry Dunfield's penalty and blocking Neil Ashton's rebound after Danny Thomas had been brought down by Joe Colbeck.

Boss Stuart McCall said: "We knew he was going to save that penalty. He's been in such great form. The first save was great, but the second save was nothing short of exceptional.

"We've played better in other games this season, but I feel that our luck has now turned and if you keep working hard and doing the right things sooner or later you're going to get some breaks."
