McParland slams Magpies defence

Sun 03 Feb, 05:00 PM

Notts County manager Ian McParland slammed his side for surrendering their lead so quickly in the 1-1 draw against Grimsby at Meadow Lane.Richard Butcher's 10th goal of the season had given County the lead in the 59th minute but Nick Fenton scored just two minutes later against his former club to secure a point.

"When you go one up at home and keep it tight for 10 to 15 minutes afterwards, you go on and win the game," said McParland.

"That was the frustrating thing. We worked our socks off to take the lead and within five minutes it was 1-1.

"They are professional footballers and should be capable of organising themselves to keep things tight."

McParland added: "It was an open game and Grimsby had a couple of good chances early doors but we had plenty ourselves and didn't take them."
