Werder Bremen slipped three points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich when they capped a bad week with a 2-1 defeat at home to Bochum.
Goals from Franck Ribery and Luca Toni helped Bayern start the weekend with a 2-1 win at Hansa Rostock on Friday night.

Kevin Kuranyi struck twice against his former club to lead Schalke to a commanding win over last season's champions.
Kuranyi headed the first in the 32nd minute and the Germany striker added the second six minutes after the break, tapping in after a fumble from the keeper.
Antonio da Silva got one back 10 minutes later with a free kick that hit the bar and then went in off goalkeeper Manuel Neuer but Heiko Westermann restored the two-goal lead and new
Brazilian signing Ze Roberto swept in the fourth in added time.

WERDER BREMEN 1 VfL BOCHUM 2
Careless Werder let Bayern Munich go three points clear at the top after failing to make the most of their early chances and then seeming surprised as Bochum launched a comeback.
Werder went ahead through Daniel Jensen after the ball had dropped to him from a corner just before the break.
Bochum hit back in the 68th minute when new Japanese signing Shinji Ono reached the byeline and crossed for Benjamin Auer.
Werder were further hit when Naldo was sent off for pulling back Stanislav Sestak two minutes later and Bochum grabbed a late winner from Anthar Yahia, Ono again providing the assist.

Wolfsburg took a big stride away from the relegation places with this win. The only goal came in the 27th minute when Marcelinho slid through a pass to Jonathan Santana on the left of the area. His cross cut out the goalkeeper and let in the Brazilian Grafite to head home unmolested.

ENERGIE COTTBUS 2 BAYER LEVERKUSEN 3
Leverkusen came from a goal down to win an entertaining tussle on a dreadful pitch. Cottbus moved ahead in the 15th minute when Michal Papadopulos, the Czech striker they took on loan from Leverkusen over the mid-season break, headed past his former team mates. Simon Rolfes tapped in the equaliser from a corner with almost an hour gone and Dmitry Bulykin put them ahead soon afterwards. Cottbus hit back through Christian Bassila with a shot on the rebound but Rolfes struck his second from the penalty spot four minutes from time.

HAMBURG 1 HANOVER 1
Hamburg recovered from a bad start to finish as much the stronger team but they failed to win for a fourth Bundesliga match in a row and are now six points behind Bayern Munich. Hanover took the lead in the 40th minute when Guy Demel gave away a penalty and Szabolcs Huszti converted. The equaliser came in the 70th minute when Ivica Olic tapped in after a Rafael van der Vaart shot had been blocked. Hanover finished the match with 10 men when Sergio Pinto was red-carded for retaliation a minute from time.

HERTHA BERLIN 0 EINTRACHT FRANKFURT 3
Martin Fenin, the 20-year-old Czech striker signed from Teplice in the transfer window, made an extraordinary debut for Frankfurt, scoring all three goals. Fenin made the breakthrough in the 39th minute with a fine piece of control and calm finish at the far post. Fenin got his second after an hour when he surprised the keeper with a shot at the near post and he completed his hat-trick in the last minute.

KARLSRUHE 2 NUREMBERG 0
Karlsruhe took advantage of Andreas Wolf's sending-off in the 57th minute to take control. Christian Eichner struck from out wide on the left for the opener in the 67th minute and seven minutes later Josh Kennedy made the game safe.

DUISBURG 3 BORUSSIA DORTMUND 3
Diego Klimowicz staged a rescue act for Dortmund in this crackling derby, scoring twice to earn his side a point after they had fallen 3-1 behind. Duisburg scored with their first two shots, from Iulian Filipescu and Tobias Willi, to lead 2-0 and after Sebastian Kehl had reduced the arrears by scoring with his back, a Mihai Tararache penalty restored the home side's two-goal lead. Klimowicz gave Dortmund renewed hope with a header in the 68th minute and the Argentine striker grabbed an equaliser in the second minute of added time to make it 3-3.

A tired looking Bayern team did just enough to kick off the second half of the season with a victory.
Bayern went ahead in the 10th minute when France midfielder Franck Ribery supplied a deft finish to Ze Roberto's cross.
Italy striker Luca Toni doubled the lead just before the break when he swept the ball in from 10 metres for his 10th league goal.
Enrico Kern pulled one back for Rostock in the 52nd minute, following up after Oliver Kahn saved his original shot and the rebound struck the bar, but they rarely threatened an equaliser

Meanwhile, the draw for the quarter-finals of the German Cup has been made.
Bayern Munich will face city rivals 1860 Munich in the standout tie.
Bayern will start as strong favourites against second division 1860 at the Allianz Arena, the ground the two sides share, on February 26 or 27.
Bayern have won the German Cup 13 times but 1860 have also known success in the competition, winning it in 1964 and 1942.
Borussia Dortmund will meet 1899 Hoffenheim while Stuttgart face another second division team, Carl Zeiss Jena.
Wolfsburg host Hamburg in the only all-Bundesliga clash.
