Euro 2012 - Terry stripped of England captaincy
Fri, 03 Feb 11:57:00 2012
John Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy for the second time by the Football Association.
Terry lost the armband for a second time after he was called by FA chairman David Bernstein on Friday morning.
Bernstein on Thursday contacted all the other members of the 12-strong board to seek their views after the decision that the defender's trial will not take place until July 9 - after Euro 2012. Terry has been accused of racially abusing QPR's Anton Ferdinand, a charge he denies.
English football's governing body took the decision to act immediately rather than putting off a decision until the next board meeting on February 23.
The FA released a statement around an hour after the news broke on Friday which reads: "Following the decision to adjourn the court case against John Terry to July, the Football Association confirm he will not captain the England team until the allegations against him are resolved.
"The FA board expected the trial to be concluded prior to the European Championship. Further to Wednesday’s confirmation that the trial will not take place until after the tournament, the board has discussed the matter in detail and has collectively decided it is in the interests of all parties that John has the responsibilities of captaincy removed at this time.
AVB: I disagree with Terry axe
"This decision has been taken due to the higher profile nature of the England captaincy, on and off the pitch, and the additional demands and requirements expected of the captain leading into and during a tournament.
"The FA board can confirm that he has not been excluded from the squad and that Fabio Capello is free to select him for the Holland fixture on 29 February and the European Championship.
"FA chairman David Bernstein has spoken to both John Terry and Fabio Capello to explain the facts to them. Fabio Capello has not been involved in the FA board discussions which reached this conclusion, but understands that the FA board has authority to make this decision.
"Fabio Capello will take the decision as to who will be made captain moving forward.
"This decision in no way infers any suggestion of guilt in relation to the charge made against John Terry. The FA will be not be making any further comment on this matter."
News Terry
Sports minister Hugh Robertson MP voiced his approval of the decision, saying: "It would have been impossible for Terry to have continued as captain with this charge over his head."
Terry had previously been demoted from the role in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup following lurid tabloid stories about his private life which led to Wayne Bridge's retirement from international football.

Thisis the best news ever. Terry as much as I can remeber never deserved the England arm band from the begining, it was between him, Rion, Gerrard and lampard but hey, he snicked his way in to that captaincy by organising illegal meetings bhind the back of the true captain Gerrard. Its maddening for people to be so short sighted and think they can support Terry to the death of the English football team. his team mates don't like him that much because he farked one of their. Left to me, I will face him and ask for a polite contest with bottle and no rule.
So much for innocent til proven guilty eh? If I was john Terry then I'd walk out on England until I got reinstated as captain again as it works both ways. According to the F.A then he's already been treated as guilty.
If he has lost his captaincy then John Terry should withdraw his services from the England squad for good.
John Terry should tell the FA to poke the England set-up,sue whoever writes defamatory reports about him, shake Capellos hand, and walk away to concentrate on helping Chelsea to success where he is appreciated. And as for those people who keep banging on about the Wayne Bridge saga, just remember,NOTHING was PROVED,the couple were not even together and JT,s wife was happy to stay with him.Oh yes,and in my book Wayne Bridge acted like a big baby throughout the whole pathetic business.Chin up JT,CHELSEA FANS LOVE YOU!Tony Bristow,Woking.
BNP want Terry...but he's already a member...in more ways than one...lol.
To some transfer tittle-tattle to provide some light relief on what is an oppressive day of football news, and Real Madrid are set to make a swoop for Sergio Aguero in the summer.
they suppose to wait after find him guity before taking decision.to strip him as captain now the case have not be touch is not fair what of Balotelli who spit on referee. all am saying is unfair decision by FIFA. Benny from Nigeria
Ferdinand's a GRASS !!
does anybody know John terry personally. All they know is what the media print and as we know that is never reliable.I say mind your own business and leave this poor man alone.Remember how they pilloried David Beckham for the sending off ,the newspapers conducted a witch hunt , later it was proved he was totally innocent and was sent off for nothing. Nothing was proved about the so called 'affair' nothing has been proved about the racist claim so until it is i say get off his case.

He appears very thick... he looks thick.. acts it... Copare him to a gent like Bobby Moore who didn't spit/snarl and play act.. and it is evident what a prima donna this fool is.
not before time the scumbag first sh-ged his team mates wife then instigated a mutiny at the world cup just drop the pig altogether
978, why all the invective and theoretical punishments? Currently Terry has not been convicted of any crimes. The time for your comments will be when and if he is.
i wonder if the people so eager to brand this man guilty without trial would be so keen for that way of thinking if their own necks were on the line. hypocrites.
The Word "stripped of England captaincy" is not enough for him. He should be banned for 10 or even more games, not included in the squad and punished by Courts of Law. He deserves all these, For he is a Shame to the English. Surely the World of Football has had Great men, he will not be missed.
He's a bad example to young footballers, what with cheating on his wife & kids and now this racism, a captain of our nation needs good morals not nasty scum like terry!
INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY PEOPLE NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE !!
i wouldnt play at all if i was him out of spite
Terry is "bad news" for England Footbal Team. Need to get him out of the way and focus on the Football
I would just say Ok strip the captaincy and by the way I wont be going to euros with you thanks ! LUFC
Innocent till proven guilty? Of course the video footage proves nothing! Can't work out why he is still playing. Should have been suspended till after court case. Maybe it depends on who you play for. He thinks he hasn't done anything wrong, but then he ain't the sharpest pencil in the case is he. He is probably grateful that he was able to find a career in football. If he'd been born in a rural area I doubt he'd have made it to the top level but hey does it really matter, in the whole scheme of things it's never going to be a live or death situation. I've had my rant now, thank you.
959. That is you right down to the courts, you can't call someone that word anymore.LOL
