Inter chief unconcerned by slump

Mon 03 Mar, 01:00 PM

Internazionale president Massimo Moratti is refusing to panic even though the club is on the verge of crashing out of the Champions League. The Serie A leaders suffered their first league defeat of the season on Sunday and are now only six points clear of second-placed Roma after going down 1-0 at Napoli, while they go into Wednesday's last-16 second leg with Liverpool two goals down.

But Moratti said: "After an impeccable year, it's normal that sooner or later we would suffer a defeat in the domestic competition. But it doesn't seem to me to be a crisis."

Injury woes have taken their toll on Roberto Mancini's side, who have struggled for form of late.

Inter have collected just two points from their last three league games, but Moratti remains optimistic his team will get back on track, starting this weekend when they take on struggling Reggina.

"More than worried I'm disappointed," he said. "On Sunday the team didn't play well, whereas Napoli did a very good job.

"Perhaps it's normal that my players are thinking about the game against Liverpool because it's a very important encounter for us.

"But we must get back as soon as possible the same determination that we have shown in the past. Above all, we need to be calm."

The game against second-bottom Reggina will mark the club's centenary.
