Port Vale defender George Pilkington insists his team will not give up on League One survival until it is mathematically impossible. The rock-bottom Valiants fell to a seventh defeat in the last nine games against Oldham on Saturday and are now 14 points adrift of safety.
Pilkington admits they are in a "horrible position" but has called on his team-mates to play for "personal pride" between now and the end of the season.
He told the Sentinel: "It is about personal pride towards the end of the season. There is always the outside chance we could get out of it.
"It's a horrible position to be in and it gets you down. But we have to try to enjoy what remains of the season.
"Sometimes you wonder what you have to do to win a game. Things aren't going for us, but we have to keep working hard."
