Wigan manager Steve Bruce remains hopeful of avoiding relegation having tightened things up at the back in recent weeks.The Latics escaped the drop on the final day of last season, and their battle looks set to go to the wire once again.

"We were conceding two a game up to two or three months ago so we have made ourselves a bit of resilience," Bruce said.

"We have given ourselves an outstanding chance with three clean sheets out of four.

"I have the sprinkling of some good players here and I hope we can do enough to stay in the division and see where we can go from there."
