Nicky Shorey has admitted he has never felt more pressure as a Reading player than he did before the Premier League victory at Middlesbrough.The Royals ended a club-record run of eight successive league defeats on Saturday thanks to James Harper's last-gasp winner at the Riverside Stadium - a result that put them within touching distance of safety.

"We'd been under pressure, probably the most pressure we've ever been under, but that's what we get paid for," Shorey said on the club's official website.

He added: "It was our most important goal of the season as well, but we have to back this result up. Hopefully we can push on now and this gives us confidence.

"Hopefully it will free us up as well. If we play as well as we can, we'll get more results."
