Southend have denied press reports linking Kevin Maher with a loan move to Gillingham, while Swindon have also been linked with their captain.The 31-year-old has been a stalwart in the Shrimpers side for the past 10 years, appearing 454 times for the Essex club.

But he has not figured in Steve Tilson's first team since their 1-0 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers on New Year's Day.

The out-of-favour midfielder has also attracted the attention of fellow League One side Swindon, who are also chasing Maher's signature.
