Premier League - Team of the Week

Eurosport - Mon, 03 Mar 22:11:00 2008

There's a discernible blue hue to this week's Team of the Week, with wins for Chelsea, Everton, Blackburn, Birmingham and Reading ensuring starting berths for their star performers. Tottenham fans of a nervous disposition, meanwhile, may wish to avert their eyes from our Flops XI...

FOOTBALL Everton Yakubu - 0

HOW IT WORKS

We tot up the marks out of 10 awarded in five national newspapers - The Sun, The Mirror, The Mail, The Times and The Guardian - to create a total out of 50. The top player in each position will be rewarded with a spot in the Team of the Week, while the worst scorers will be named and shamed in our Flops XI.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel keeps his place between the sticks, despite his only achievement being the fairly straightforward task of keeping a clean sheet at St James' Park. Chelsea are well represented after their four-star showing at West Ham, and Birmingham's Mikael Forssell is our player of the week after his 'perfect' hat-trick brought Spurs down to earth with a bump.

1. Brad Friedel (Blackburn Rovers) - 40

2. Liam Rosenior (Reading) - 34

3. Wilfried Bouma (Aston Villa) - 34

4. John Terry (Chelsea) - 37

FLOPS OF THE WEEK

The champagne corks have stopped popping, the beer-stained suits are at the dry-cleaners and the hangovers are really starting to kick in: after the heady celebrations that followed last weekend's Carling Cup win, Spurs resumed normal league service with a 4-1 drubbing at St Andrews. And if it wasn't for Eddie Johnson's shocking debut for Fulham, Luis Boa Morte's argy-bargy antics against Chelsea and the enduring mediocrity of Alan Smith, they would have filled every position in the Flops team.

1. Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur) - 20

2. Pascal Chimbonda (Tottenham Hotspur) - 15

3. Teemu Tainio (Tottenham Hotspur) - 16

4. Younes Kaboul (Tottenham Hotspur) - 14

5. Didier Zokora (Tottenham Hotspur) - 17

6. Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham Hotspur) - 19

TEAM OF THE SEASON (minimum 14 starts)

There's only one change to the Team of the Season this week, as Steven Gerrard's marauding performance against Bolton lifts him into the side in place of Cesc Fabregas, who endured a difficult afternoon against Aston Villa.

2. Kolo Toure (Arsenal) - 33.45

3. Joleon Lescott (Everton) - 34.3

4. Richard Dunne (Manchester City) - 33.77

5. Martin Laursen (Aston Villa) - 33.77

FLOPS OF THE SEASON

Tottenham's meek defeat at Birmingham earns a place in the Flops XI for consistent flopper Younes Kaboul, but he still has a way to go to match the ineptness of current Flop of the Season Jay McEveley, who has turned picking up abysmal scores into something of an art-form.

1. Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur) - 29.39

2. Younes Kaboul (Tottenham Hotspur) - 27.52

3. Jay McEveley (Derby County) - 26.54

4. Claude Davis (Derby County) - 26.97

5. Ibrahima Sonko (Reading) - 27.11

6. Brynjar Gunnarsson (Reading) - 27.69

7. Alan Smith (Newcastle United) - 26.92

8. Robbie Savage (Derby County) - 28.25
