Our weekly look at the domestic fortunes of British clubs' upcoming adversaries in the UEFA Cup, with Everton to face a Fiorentina side on a high after a superb weekend win.
All games to be played on Thursday 6 March
Fiorentina (home to Everton)
Juventus 2-3 Fiorentina
Argentina-born striker Pablo Osvaldo swooped in injury time to give Fiorentina a big win over Juventus in Turin. Defender Massimo Gobbi had put the Viola in the lead early on, only for Momo Sissoko and Mauro Camoranesi to give Juve the lead. Subsitute Papa Waigo restored parity with 15 minutes remaining before Osvaldo - who was sent off for his excessive celebrations - headed the winner late on. Fiorentina moved to within a point of third-placed Juve with the win.
Sporting (away at Bolton)
Sporting 1-1 Benfica
Sporting geared up for their trip to the Reebok with a point against city rivals and league leaders Benfica in the Lisbon derby. Montenegrin midfielder Simon Vukcevic put the hosts ahead with a header after 11 minutes, only for Oscar Cardozo to equalise before the break. Sporting occupy fourth place in the Portuguese top flight.
Werder Bremen (away at Rangers)
Werder Bremen 2-0 Borussia Dortmund
Bremen kept up the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich thanks to Markus Rosenberg's brace in a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. The Sweden striker struck either side of half-time - one a neat back heel - to keep Thomas Schaaf's side in second place, four points of the top of the table.
PSV Eindhoven (away at Tottenham)
Utrecht 3-1 PSV Eindhoven
League leaders PSV suffered a shock defeat at Utretcht allowing Ajax to close the gap at the top of the Eredivisie table to six points. PSV took the lead through Timmy Simons' spot kick in the 29th minute, but a spirited comeback from the hosts saw Robin Nelisse, Tim Cornelisse and then Gregoor van Dijk net to inflict defeat on Spurs' next opponents. And with a clash against Ajax coming up at the weekend, Sef Vergoosen's side have a tough week ahead.
