Jankovic into second round in Mexico
Top seed Jelena Jankovic survived an early scare to book her place in round two of WTA Monterrey with a straight sets win over Lourdes Lino Dominguez.
The 26-year-old Serb double-faulted three times to drop her opening service game of the match, before recovering to wrap up an ultimately comfortable 6-4 6-1 victory.
"Today was tough. My opponent played very well and hit a lot of slices," Jankovic said.
"I feel good about my game though. I only came here a few days ago and the conditions are different, but I'm happy to win. I enjoyed it out here.
"I love coming back to Monterrey. I was here last year and had a great time. The people are so nice and very welcoming. I want to thank you all so much for the support."
In Wednesday’s second round matches, second-seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova ousted Melanie Oudin 6-2 7-6(6), despite a spirited fight back by the American in the second set.
"Melanie is a much more aggressive player than my opponent yesterday so I had to pay much more attention," Pavlyuchenkova said. "I played much better."
