Scunthorpe defender Cliff Byrne has set his sights on regaining match fitness before the end of the season after a series of injury setbacks. The former Sunderland man suffered a hairline fracture of his leg back in November and had been struggling to maintain a regular starting berth ever since due to a series of knocks to the problematic area.
Having lasted the full 90 minutes in last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Leicester he told the club's official website: "It was nice to come back. It has been a stop-start season for me really.
"I have had to see the specialist quite a few times, and this time I really needed to make sure it was okay and could not afford to rush it back.
"I would not say I am 100 per cent fit yet - it is hard to recreate the match play in training.
"The only way I can reach that level is by playing and hopefully I can get some more before the end of the season."
