Monk set to miss rest of season

Swansea defender Garry Monk looks set to miss the rest of the season after failing to recover from a troublesome back injury. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since limping out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy semi-final second leg at MK Dons at the end of February despite an initial prognosis suggesting the injury was a short term problem.

However Monk is still a long way off recovering and with just a month of the season left, Swans physio Richie Evans has admitted the former Barnsley player is unlikely to feature for Roberto Martinez's side in their run-in.

"Back injuries are complicated, it could be two weeks or it could be three months," Evans told thisisswansea.co.uk

"I'm not going to put a timescale on a return. We'll have to wait and see over the next couple of weeks but he's been out for five weeks now and has missed a lot of football."
