European 5000 metres silver medallist Mo Farah will make his eagerly-awaited 10,000m metres debut at the Cardinal Invitational meeting in Stanford on Sunday.
Farah will stick to his favourite distance for the Olympics in August but will eventually move up to the longer track event.
The former European cross-country champion was second in last month's Carlsbad five kilometre road race and stayed on in the United States, arranging to train at altitude at the running mecca of Flagstaff.
Farah believes the month's training he undertook there will prove beneficial when he takes on a strong international field including Kenyan training partner Micah Kogo, Australia's Craig Mottram and the USA's top distance performers.
"My sessions have been great and now I'm aiming to test how I have benefited with what will be a tough race but in the past always very fast in Stanford," said Farah.
Despite his inexperience over 25 laps, Farah could get close to Jon Brown's 10-year-old UK national record of 27minutes 18.14seconds if the pace is pushed along early as it traditionally is.
But being realistic Farah believes he will achieve that challenge "probably next year" after establishing himself over the distance.
Scotland's 3000 metres specialist Andrew Lemoncello, who is based in Flagstaff, also competes while US-based Kathy Butler and Kate Reed will compete in the women's race.
